听力原文
Text 1
W: If I’m not mistaken, your birthday is coming up. Has your brother sent you anything?
M: Not yet. He never forgets, though.
Text 2
W: Wow, what a wonderful sale. Did you see the sofa? It’s in good shape, and he’s selling it for \(100.
M: Yes. And so is that computer. What a deal! The one we saw last week was three times as expensive as it, which was \)300.
Text 3
M: Your English is pretty good.
W: Thanks, that’s what I’m studying. I studied Russian for a while but I found it very difficult and gave up. And then I learned a little Spanish when I went on holiday in Spain.
Text 4
W: Hey, Tom, look at this baby bird!
M: Oh, no! It’s hurt. Maybe we should ask Dad for help.
W: Let’s take it to the animal shelter. It’s not far.
M: I’ll ask someone for a box.
Text 5
M: Can I make an appointment to see the surgeon on Friday, please?
W: I’m sorry. We have no appointments left on Friday. Is Monday all right?
M: I can’t make it on Monday, but Tuesday morning would be fine.
W: OK, Tuesday at 11 o’clock then.
Text 6
W: Hi, Jack. How are you today?
M: I’m not feeling well.
W: Oh, I’m sorry. What seems to be the trouble?
M: I’ve got a sore throat and I think I’m running a fever.
W: That sounds like the flu. You’d better go and see the doctor.
M: He’ll probably put me to bed but I can’t miss any work.
W: You can afford to miss 2 or 3 days better than 10 or 20 days.
M: You are right, of course. I just don’t like to stay in the house.
Text 7
W: Hey, Alex. What’s up?
M: Oh, nothing. I’m just planning for my dad’s sixtieth birthday.
W: Wow! Your dad will be sixty? He looks so young. I would have thought he was fifty years old.
M: Ha! He’d love to hear that. Anyway, it’s a special occasion, so I want to plan a surprise party for him.
W: That’s nice. I’m sure he’ll appreciate that. So when’s the big day?
M: On the thirtieth, July.
W: That’s only two weeks away! You’d better start to plan!
M: I need your help. Would you think it together.
W: With pleasure.
Text 8
M: OK, where are we heading first?
W: Shopping!
M: We’d better go shopping last, because we don’t want to walk around all day with tons of shopping bags.
W: What else is there to do here, then?
M: There’s an interesting exhibition of 19th century clothes at the History Museum.
W: I’d rather buy new clothes than look at old ones.
M: What about going to a gallery? I think there’s a Goya exhibition at one of the big art galleries.
W: Oh, please. I don’t know about you, but I come to London to have fun, not to get bored out of my mind.
M: OK, it’s a beautiful day. There are plenty of parks we can go to.
W: Or maybe we can get something to eat.
M: I got it! We can get sandwiches and then go to Hyde Park.
W: Sounds like a good plan.
Text 9
M: Say, Lisa, what are you doing?
W: Watching a Japanese film. I’m going to spend all next year in Japan, and I think I should find out more about its culture.
M: You mean you have been accepted into the program?
W: I sure have.
M: That’s wonderful. You must be excited.
W: Excited and nervous. You know I have to work on some basic conversation skills.
M: How much Japanese can you understand?
W: Only a little now. But I’m going to take a special language class next month.
M: I wish I were as clever as you are at foreign languages. I would love to study abroad.
W: Then why don’t you? The school has a lot of programs that don’t require the mastery of a foreign language. You just have to be the kind of person who is quick to learn new things and can get used to a new environment fast.
M: I thought all programs required one to know a foreign language. Thank you for letting me know this.
Text 10
W: I have three children of my own and recently became responsible for my two nieces and a nephew as well. Being responsible for six kids can become extremely difficult. Because of the expense, we rarely eat out. On one recent evening, I decided to treat the kids to a meal at a nice restaurant. They had all done so well in their recent report cards. As we were sitting at a local restaurant waiting for our meal, an old gentleman walked up to our table, and he said, “Excuse me, madam. Are you paying for a meal for all of these children?” I just smiled quietly and answered, “Yes, sir.” Then he handed me a twenty-dollar bill and said, “This will help.” I tried to decline his money, but he just smiled, waved goodbye and walked away. I said “Thank you, sir.” As he left, the kindness of a stranger made my children and me have a great day.
