Text 1
M: Anne, I’m booking our accommodations. How about this place? It’s really inexpensive. And it’s as clean as any of these other places.
W: I don’t know. There’s no swimming pool … or air conditioning. Can’t we stay somewhere nice for a change?
Text 2
M: Oh, you’ve got a new book. Who is it aimed at?
W: The young. Besides, this is not a book about general eating habits. It’s about how food production has developed through the centuries.
Text 3
M: Alice, aren’t you learning French by yourself now?
W: Yes, I am. Why do you ask?
M: Then I’m sure you want to go to the Language Study Fair to be held next week.
W: Yes. How I can miss such an event!
Text 4
M: Has anyone left a package for me?
W: Yes, the postman sent a large envelope to you. I leave it at the front desk. Do you want me to send it up to your room?
M: I’ll come down for it, thanks.
Text 5
M: Why didn’t you wake me up at seven like I asked you to?
W: Seven? I thought you asked me not to wake you up at seven, so I let you sleep an hour longer!
Text 6
M: Hi, I made a reservation. The name is Jimmy Fox.
W: I’m sorry. We have no mid-size available at the moment.
M: I don’t understand. I made a reservation.
W: Yes, sir. Unfortunately, we ran out of those cars.
M: Well, the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservation. But you just don’t hold the reservation and that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding.
W: I’m really sorry, but we do have a small car or an SUV if you’d like.
M: Fine. I’ll take the SUV.
Text 7
M: So Alice, are you happy at your new school?
W: Yeah, of course. Its environment is nice. People there are friendly and I’ve made a lot of new friends. Oh, the best aspect is the food, which is so delicious.
M: That’s wonderful. How about your study?
W: I’m learning several new subjects this year. They’re tough, but luckily, we’ve got lovely teachers and they’re expert at their subject.
M: Sounds good. It seems that you really love the new school.
W: Yeah. And it’s large, with a sports field, a modern library and all kinds of new equipment. There is nowhere like that at my old school.
Text 8
W: Thanks for listening to our program. Our next topic is really interesting. Twins are quite popular nowadays here in London - there are books about twins, websites about twins; twins even have their own festivals and clubs. We’ve sent Trevor Williams, to America to find out first - hand information about a very special twins place. Trevor, can you hear me?
M: Yes, Karen, loud and clear.
W: And where are you today, Trevor?
M: As you can see, I’ m here in the heart of New York City, in an amazing place — Twins Bistro.
W: Well, then Trevor, what can you tell us about it?
M: Well, Karen, I spoke to the owners, twins Debbic and Lisa Ganz. They come from Chicago. They told me that all the waiters and waitresses here are twins that look exactly alike — 37 pairs in all — and they always work at the same time, at the same tables.
W: Don’ t the customer get confused?
M: That’ s part of the fun! And by the way, if one twin is ill, the other one needn’t bother to show up for work. They are only allowed to work in pairs.
W: That’ s beyond belief!
Text 9
M: Madam, do you know how fast you were going just now?
W: Uh, well,no,I didn’t think I was going that fast...
M: This is a 25 mph zone, Madam. You see that school over there? You were going 35 mph.
W: But today is Sunday, sir. There is no school today.
M: That doesn’t matter, Madam. There are signs that say what the speed limit is. Besides, children often come to school on weekends to play sports. You see all those kids over there? What if you hit one of them by accident?
W: I’m sorry, officer. I won’t do it again. Could you please let me off with a warning?
M: I’m afraid I can’t do that, Madam. In school zones, I’m required to give tickets to all drivers who break the rules. It’s the law in this county.
W: Oh, dear! What is this going to cost me?
M: I don’t know, Madam. Usually, these things can be taken care of for less than$100. Now please sign here at the bottom.
W: OK...is that all?
M: One more thing, if you go to traffic school, your insurance won’t go up. Have you been to traffic school before, Madam?
W: No, I haven’t.
M: There are many cheap options online. It’s definitely better than paying more for insurance.
W: OK, thank you.
M: My pleasure.
Text 10
M: A lady was walking down the street to work. She passed by a pet store.A parrot stood on the side-walk outside a pet store. The parrot said to her, “Hey lady, you are really fat.” Well, the lady is very angry! She hurried past the store to her work. On the way home she saw the same parrot and it said to her again, “Hey lady, you are really fat.” She was very angry now. The next day the same parrot again said to her, “Hey lady, you are really fat.” The lady couldn’t stand any more so she went into the store and told the store manager she would kill the bird. The store manager replied, “That’s not good, ”and promised the parrot would not call her fat again. When the lady walked past the store that day after work the parrot called to her, “Hey lady.” She looked at the bird and said, “Yes?” The bird said, “You know.”
